We saw a few street vendors selling kürtőskalács (which are also known as chimney cakes) in Budapest, but we didn’t get to try one until we hiked up to the Citadella one morning. It’s a sweet dough rolled and spun into a cone and dipped in different kinds of granulated sugar. Ours also had strawberry ice cream inside. It was soooo good!
Darren and I love spices, but both of our stomachs cannot handle the hot ones. Paprika is one of Hungarian’s favorite ingredients. Apparently, the ones that are grown there are sweeter due to their cool growing season which retains sugar in the spice. The weather also affects the color of the paprika. We didn’t buy any but took a photo of this paprika rack because it was so pretty!
Hungarians also love their meat. Here’s a vendor right next to the Kürtőskalács stall, selling kabobs and sausages:
